The Backlist Reader Challenge 2018 Sign-up

Happy New Year everyone! I’m super excited for all that 2018 has to offer, and I hope it will be a great year, both for reading and in general. To start it off, I am going to participate in The Backlist Reader Challenge 2018 hosted by The Bookwyrm’s Hoard. Here, you can see the sign-up post, including challenge info and rules.

Essentially, the idea is to read as many books on your TBR as possible. There are only two main rules: read books that were published before 2017 that are on your TBR, and create goals in a sign-up post. Two other guidelines are to review the books you read for the challenge and post them on a linky, and create a wrap-up post at the end of the year. The challenge runs from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.

My Goals

I am going to aim to read 20 books for The Backlist Reader Challenge, as I still want to have a little wiggle room for recent releases and whatever else catches my eye. I sometimes just see books at the library or on GoodReads that aren’t on my TBR, but they seem really good and I just HAVE to read them right that minute. I want to be able to do that as well as keep on track with the challenge.

Challenge TBR:

I have a few books in mind for the challenge, but mostly I just like to read whatever I feel like reading at the moment. I would like to get through:

  • The Divergent trilogy
  • Finish the Harry Potter series
  • Start the Shatter Me series
  • Start the Red Queen series
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
  • Some Kasie West books
  • Finish the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy
  • Finish the Gallagher Girls series

I’m trying to read all of the books that I own and read fewer from the library this year, and I think this challenge will help me with that. There are also many series that I have started but not finished (that I would like to finish) and plan on reading this year.

Wish me luck as I begin my first year long reading challenge!!

Are you participating in any challenges this year? Are you trying to reduce your TBR in 2018? (Who isn’t?) What are your reading goals for this year?

  1. Welcome to the challenge! And best of luck with your goals. I hope the challenge helps you read some of those books you’ve been wanting to get around to!

Like you, I just set a number goal for myself, to give myself flexibility in what books I choose to read. (I’ve got more than enough to choose from, between my own shelves and my Goodreads want-to-read list!)

    • Thank you! I’m really excited to be a part of this challenge this year. Hopefully I can go above and beyond my goal, but we’ll see where the year takes me! I too have plenty to choose from, and hopefully I can read the books that I own and have yet to get around to!
