Mid Year Freak Out Tag 2018

Title Template (3)

Hello, and happy Mid-2018! As June is approaching its end, it is time, once again, for the Mid Year Freak Out Tag! Though, I think people just generally freak out all the time and not just at mid-year, but maybe it’s just me. Maybe it’s referring to us readers freaking out about all the new releases and unread TBRs and unfinished reviews and the simple fact that time is going WAY too fast for us to ever catch up! Also, how is June almost over already? It seems like it was June 1 like yesterday. Aside from all my blabbing, here is the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag for 2018!

Best Book You’ve Read so Far in 2018:

I have actually had a really great reading year so far, so this is a tough one! I just can’t pick between them, so I have two: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi and Now a Major Motion Picture by Cori McCarthy. Shatter Me is an amazing distopian full of emotion and wonderfully dynamic characters. Now a Major Motion Picture is a cute romance involving fandoms and female empowerment. I just loved reading both of these books, and I would highly recommend reading them if you get the chance!

Best Sequel You’ve Read so Far:

I have not read very many sequels or series this year, but my favorite one is definitely Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi, the fourth book in the Shatter Me series. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book and all of its crazy awesomeness!! Just… GAH. Tahereh has me hanging on every word and I CANNOT wait for book five, which is set to release March 5, 2019.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want to:

Of course I have like a thousand, but I have managed to narrow it down to two. I have The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton and Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff. I own both books, yet I keep reading things from the library…

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year:

Probably Archenemies by Marissa Meyer and Wildcard by Marie Lu. (As you can see, I’m not very good at picking just one…) I was not quite as in love with Renegades as I wanted to be, and it was suuuper long, but I am eager to see how the story continues! And, I instantly fell in love with Warcross, so Wildcard is an instant must-read for me. Though, I will have to do a reread because I don’t remember much from the first book…

Biggest Disappointment:

I’m going to have to say I was rather disappointed by Erika L. Sanchez’s I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. I was not wowed or inspired or intrigued really. I had heard such good things about this book, and was super excited to read it, but it just kind of fell flat for me.

28945665Biggest Surprise:

Hmmm… Zero Repeat Forever by G.S. Prendergast was pretty surprising really. It was kind of like a mash up between The 5th Wave and Defy the Stars. It was kind of “eh” at the beginning, but the middle and end were quite surprising!

Favorite New Author:

Easily Tahereh Mafi. Obviously I really like the Shatter Me series and I am sooo excited for the rest of it! I honestly can’t believe I didn’t read this book sooner!

Newest Fictional Crush:

Probably Eamon O’Brien from Now a Major Motion Picture. He was just super sweet and adorable and always wanted to help out Iris and her little brother. He’s definitely a nerd, but he made for an awesome actor as well!

Newest Favorite Character:

KENJI KISHIMOTO one thousand percent definitely. (from Shatter Me) He’s hilarious and always knows how to cheer up the people around him. Plus, he is an amazing friend to Juliet. And is just overall amazing. If you haven’t read the series, you should read it if only to experience the awesomeness that is Kenji.

Book that Made You Cry:

Well, I don’t really cry over books, so I don’t have an answer for this one.

Book that Made You Happy:

The book Wonder by R.J. Palacio definitely made me happy. I saw the movie before reading the book, but it was still wonderful and inspiring and really fun to read. I enjoyed kind of going back to my childhood days in elementary school, where world views are totally different! It was really fun to read a book from the perspective of an elementary student now that I am older. It really makes you appreciate those “good old days”!

Favorite Book to Film Adaptation:

As I mentioned above, I really liked the Wonder movie adaptation. I also really enjoyed the A Wrinkle in Time movie. I read the book last September in preparation for the movie, and I quite enjoyed it! There are a ton of really cool science fiction things, plus the young characters are really fun and enjoyable.

Favorite Post You Have Written This Year:

Probably my post about the wonderfulness that is The Lunar Chronicles. Because that is my favorite series and I finally wrote a whole post about it! Be sure to check it out!

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought so Far:

I recently bought these three books, These Broken Stars, This Shattered World, and Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner. They seem interesting, and they have pretty covers!

Books You Need to Read By the End of the Year:

Well, there are several, so I will make a list!

  • Allegiant by Veronica Roth
  • P.S I Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
  • Illuminae, Gemina, and Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
  • The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
  • Harry Potter books 5, 6, and 7
  • The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
  • The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
  • and probably a lot more…

How has the first half of 2018 been for you? Are you freaking out mid year? Did you read anything amazing? What books are you looking forward to reading the rest of the year?
