The Mid-Year Freak Out

IMG_1413

Hello, happy Saturday! Today I am doing the Mid-Year Freak Out book tag. I have seen several bloggers doing this tag, and it seems pretty fun. I wasn’t technically tagged, but Lauren at My Paper Infinity was going unconventional and allowing anyone to participate! SO, here we are, and I hope you enjoy! (Side note: I love the name of this tag! But why should we only be allowed to freak out mid-year? Like, why not all year long?)

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?The Sun is Also a Star

Hmm… looking at my GoodReads shelf for this year (because I can’t remember what I’ve read this year!) It would probably have to be The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. It was just really light and fun and enjoyable.

2. Best sequel?

Probably Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab. Although I am currently reading it, so hopefully it continues to be wonderful! I have not read that many series this year, maybe I should get on that…

3. New release you have yet to read but really want to?

STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor. I have heard soooo many great things about it and the cover is beautiful. It also involves a boy who works at a library and I’m a library page so, why shouldn’t I love it?

4. Most anticipated release of the second half of 2017?

Easily Renegades by Marissa Meyer. She is my favorite author and all of her books are destined to be amazing. If you have not read any of them, you really should!

5. Biggest disappointment?

I would have to say Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. I read Salt to the Sea a while ago and it became one of my favorites. I had high expectations for this one, but it did not meet them at all.

I was quite surprised by A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I recently finished this one, and I enjoyed it. It had both good and bad surprises for me. Some parts I found to be beyond excellent, but others were rather boring. I also was not aware that it involved faeries, so that was a bit surprising once I started reading! (Hey, don’t judge!)

7. Favorite author? (debut or new to you)

I haven’t really gained a new favorite author this year, but I have discovered Victoria Schwab. I have found her writing to be very descriptive and captivating through This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet.

8. Newest fictional crush?

Hmmm…. I’d have to say Maxon Schreave from The Selection by Kiera Cass. He is basically perfect and charming and funny and whatnot.

Okay, this most likely doesn’t count, but Percy Jackson from The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle. I read this in January I believe, but I read the other series quite a while ago. Anyways, Percy will forever be one of my favorite characters and I’m glad to have him back!

10. Book that made you cry?

I have only ever cried over one book in my entire life and it was The Last Star by Rick Yancey. Like, that ending just really got to me I guess.

11. Book that made you happy?

Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer, because it continued the Lunar Chronicles story, and it was a graphic novel, which is really fun! And it starred Iko, who is very fun and entertaining.

12. Favorite book to movie adaptation of 2017 you’ve seen?

Well, I don’t usually watch the movies that are based upon books, but I re-watched the Hunger Games not too long ago, and they’re pretty good…

13. Favorite review written this year?

My review for The Sun is Also a Star. I just really enjoyed reading that book and writing about it! Here is a link to the post if you’re interested!

14. Most beautiful book you bought or received this year?

I got A Thousand Pieces of You not too long ago, and Ten Thousand Skies Above You is on its way!

15. Books you need to read by the end of this year?

  • Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
  • A Court of Mist and Fury & A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
  • Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
  • An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

Since I was not officially tagged for this, I am not going to tag anyone, so  you are all free to participate! I only ask that you link back to me! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Who else thinks we should be allowed to freak out all year long? (Actually, who needs permission, I do it anyways!) Do you have a list of books to finish before the end of the year? What is your most anticipated release?
